A $10 item with $4.99 shipping and $0.85 tax: 8% commission on $10 is $0.80, and processing is 2.9% of $15.84 plus $0.30, which is $0.76. A $2,000 trading card: 8% on the first $1,500 is $120, 0% on the rest, processing $58.30 on the full $2,000. Both are reproduced in the calculator’s automated tests.

Questions sellers ask

What are Whatnot's seller fees?
A commission on the item sale price and a payment processing fee on the full order. In the US the standard commission is 8% (4% for coins and money), falling by category as your sales in the current 28-day period cross tier thresholds, and processing is 2.9% plus $0.30 on item, shipping and tax. The tiered structure took effect on 21 September 2026.
Is commission charged on shipping?
No. Whatnot calculates commission on the item price only; shipping and buyer-paid taxes are excluded. Whatnot's own example: a $10 item with $4.99 shipping and $0.85 tax pays 8% of $10, or $0.80, in commission. Processing, however, is on the full $15.84.
What is the high-value cap?
Since 14 January 2026, in Comics & Anime, Toys & Hobbies, Coins & Money, Trading Card Games, Entertainment Cards, sports singles, Bags & Accessories and Jewelry & Watches, the commission is 0% on the part of an order above $1,500 (or £1,500, €1,500, A$1,500). Whatnot's example: a $2,000 qualifying item pays 8% on $1,500, which is $120, and nothing on the remaining $500; processing still applies to the full amount. Whatnot describes it as a promotion it may end.
How do tiers work?
Your tier is set by total completed sales across all categories in the current 28-day period; the rate you earn applies to the next period and is locked for it. Private shows, local pickup and cancelled orders are subtracted. Thresholds and rates differ by market; the US table is below.
What about the UK and EU?
UK standard commission is 6.67% (4% coins) with processing of 2.42% plus £0.25, and both are subject to VAT unless you are VAT-registered and have added your number. Canada and Australia use 8% standard with 2.9% plus 0.30 processing in local currency.
Who pays shipping?
The buyer, at Whatnot's flat rates, for example $7.75 for 1 to 5 lb to any US address. Sellers pay the shipping on physical giveaway items, deducted from their Whatnot balance.
